“Open MIC” considers how the Military Industrial Complex is intertwined into American lives. This is a surrealist scene of domestic life in Washington, DC. It is easy for me to forget that DC is the home of the largest organization in the world that spends nearly a quarter trillion dollars on the business of war annually (Fiscal Year 2022). How do we divest when money is so interlaced with war?

References:

  • I have been recently obsessed with Tetsuya Ishida (1973-2005) who painted themselves as anthropomorphic machines of capitalism.
  • I referenced a red envelope for Tet and red stool as I consider how the Vietnamese diaspora was impacted by MIC.
  • I referenced small diameter bombs for my missiles (#madeinamerica).
