The work commemorates not only the 50-year anniversary of the end of the war in Vietnam, but also a half century or golden jubilee of my family’s American experience. Our resiliency reveals itself through joy, play and care, a counternarrative to war. Glimpses of my childhood are interwoven within a soundscape of diegetic sounds. Moments of Viet joy contrast with Americana music to portray the tension of the Vietnamese American experience. The video is made from archival family footage from 1991 to 2002, captured by my father Lê Quang Tuyến.
