Everything portrays my self-image as a fictional prophet looking for the answer to everything. The painting explores the popularity of tarot and astrology, which I enjoy, but I also acknowledge its absurdity as a lens for finding meaning. I reference the nihilism portrayed through the metaphor of the everything bagel in the movie “Everything Everywhere All at Once.” This taps into my religious upbringing which I now reject. I also reference the landscape artwork “Bagel Garden” by Martha Schwartz. This taps into my landscape architecture background which I never pursued.
