TEASER

Fin DAC, a well-known street artist, has gained recognition for his depictions of Asian women, often described as an attempt to counter the objectification of Asian femininity. In an interview with the Korea Times, Fin DAC stated:

“My decision to focus mainly on the depiction of Asian women was more to do with…a serious lack of positive representation, and…the work I did could counteract or counterbalance overly objectified depictions…”

However, his actions have raised concerns within the art community. When an Asian female artist criticized Fin DAC’s cultural appropriation, his response included harassment and an insincere apology on Instagram that failed to acknowledge the cultural appropriation inherent in his work or examine its broader implications.

In this video, we delve into the controversy, analyzing the artist’s statements, public interactions, and the deeper conversation surrounding cultural appropriation of Asian women and culture in the art world.
