This acrylic painting is inspired by Mai Khoi, an artist whose band writes songs of dissidence and who has been banned from playing in public because of it.
My family immigrated to the USA after the Vietnam War, so I can’t help but think about a potential life in Vietnam or alternate dimension where I’d be in her generation and confronted with these restrictions on free speech.
